2013 Resources for Writers

While Anita Cox may be new to the scene, I’ve been writing for the better part of a decade.  The one thing I’ve always enjoyed and been in awe of, is the altruism of the writing community.  Writers help writers.  We are competition and allies at the same time.

In keeping with the altruistic nature of my career, today’s post is all about helping my fellow writers.  Some of you need help getting reviews.  Some need help with social media (repeat after me:  spam is evil. Spam is evil.  SPAM IS EVIL!)  Spam will also never help you sell a book.

I’m here to help you with your needs, both naughty and nice.

Reviews

Need reviews?  The first thing about reviews is that you don’t always get puppy sniffs and butterfly kisses.  If you submit a book for review, you could be setting yourself up for the ass kicking of your life.  So be sure you have your big boy / big girl pants on before you submit. Read the review policy and be certain you follow it to the letter.  Professionalism is key.  No matter what the review, thank them for their time, promote their site and maintain professionalism at all times.  If you get a bad review, thank them for their time and keep your mouth shut.  Nothing can damage you more than your desire to stick up for yourself.  With that being said, here are some great resources.

Book & Trailer Showcase http://booktrailershowcase.com/  This eMag offers book promotion, book reviews etc.

Book Blogger Directory from A to Z http://bookbloggerdirectory.wordpress.com/a-z/a-b/  There are tons of bloggers on this website, though it seems to cater to a lot of Young Adult material, there are adult blogs on there as well.

Smart Bitches Trashy Books http://smartbitchestrashybooks.com/  Here’s where you really need the big pants on.  These ladies are hysterical, if you’re not the target.  But if they love your book, sales will soar.  This is a place for a lot of publicity, but it might not be good.

Groups on Facebook:

Indie Writer’s Unite https://www.facebook.com/groups/indiewriters/ Self-explanatory, this is indie writers helping indie writers.

Erotic Review Seekers https://www.facebook.com/groups/222015344547807/  Be prepared to serve your community.  If you ask for reviews, be prepared to do them too.  Give honest reviews.  If you don’t like a book, don’t 1-star the thing and be a dick.  Email the author and help them along.

Review Seekers https://www.facebook.com/groups/reviewseekers/?fref=ts  Same principle here, just for non-erotica.
