I loved a book with bad reviews!

This should be a lesson to authors who toil over bad reviews.

I just finished Scott Weiland’s Biography. I absolutely loved it.

6103is1Fa3L

The book has some…not so kind reviews, including some 1-star bashing. I, however, really enjoyed it. It was a great insight into a life of stardom, struggling with addiction, even as a child, as well as his struggles in love.

Sure, this doesn’t give every secret, every detail, but really, I couldn’t put it down. And if  I can’t put it down, then I count that as a great read.

Yes, it was sad. I’m reading about how he was enjoying his sobriety, taking it serious, feeling better. Yet, he’s dead. From chasing the dragon. So yeah, that sucked.

But if you are an STP fan, I suggest giving this a read.

Cover_GoneBeforeGoodbyeBLURB:

The police are stumped. Was she a runaway careening toward disaster or the victim of a predator preying on teenage girls?

When rebellious seventeen-year-old Lisa Grant vanishes from her New Hampshire home, her guardian, Teagan Raynes, becomes ensnared in the frantic hunt to find her. Search dogs lose the girl’s scent at Pretty Park, where another teenager disappeared three months ago. Law enforcement fears a stalker is using the park to abduct young girls. Desperate, Teagan, reluctantly puts her faith in the lead detective, the notorious Noah Cassidy.

Hot-headed, Noah Cassidy’s reputation and job are on the line. Rumors that he attempted to kill the man found guilty of destroying his family in a boating accident have tainted him. To prove his worth, Noah devotes every minute to the case and realizes he’s up against a cunning adversary. Worse, he finds himself distracted by feelings for the attractive, gutsy Teagan. To erase her doubts about him, he must earn back his reputation and let go of his past. He knows what he has to do. He must bring Lisa home and take down the monster who is hunting the girls of Pretty Park before it’s too late.

Review: 3.5 Stars

The plot line was tightly woven and characters were developed relatively well. The story revolves around Lisa, a girl who’s gone missing, and the question of what happened to her, be it a runaway situation, or a serial killer.

The victim’s character reacts a bit strangely during one section of the book, reducing believability for me.

Overall it’s not a bad book. It just didn’t excite me.

This book was given to me in exchange for an honest review.

#Interview with @HoustonHavens

It’s no secret that Houston Havens and I are friends. We support each other online and comment on each other’s blogs, guest spots, and so on. A little history, Houston and I started off in the same (publishing) house. She was looking for reviews and a guest spot. I accepted and by the time I finished Sinful Surrender, I had to know this woman. Book 1 Syn Website Cover

She’s not only a phenomenal writer; she’s been a great friend and colleague. It’s rare that an author will reciprocate with marketing and such. Her sweet and naughty personality attracted me like a magnet. Now, she’ll never get rid of me. So yeah, what you’re about to read is a biased interview. I hope you enjoy!

Anita Cox: Houston, I’ve been pretty vocal about my obsession with your Psychic Ménage series. You hooked me with Sinful Surrender. I gobbled up Phantom Desire like a starving wild beast and couldn’t wait to get my hands on Exposed Ecstasy. I would apologize for pushing you so hard for Book 4 in your series, except I’m not sorry that I love this series.

BOOK 2 KINDLEBut I noticed not just a fantastic plot in each book, but an overall plot. Can you give my readers an idea of the overall theme and plot to this series?

Houston Havens: OMG Anita … with an introduction like that… I’m a little nervous now! Everyone will be expecting some fabulous woman with entertaining answers! *gulp* ….ok, here we go, but I have to address that awesome intro’ first! You’re right, it’s no secret you and I fit together as friends and authors like peanut butter and chocolate! The blend is YUMMY! And NEWS FLASH…I don’t want to ever ‘get rid’ of you! I adore you!

The overall theme of the series is based on technology that is in existence today. HAARP, Orgone, and Torsion Fields are all real…and there are rumors of not just the United States but other countries that have built underground cities for the elite to go to when predictions of our end; manmade or otherwise, come upon us. I took that knowledge and created the Psychic Ménage series.

I’m a TRUTH SEEKER at heart and I guess I should have been a book 3hardcore news reporter, but as we all know…news only come in the form of entertainment these days…with the real news being swept under the carpet.

So, I felt the only way to inform the public on what was really going on in our world was to blend reality into a form of fantasy. I did that by filling a gap I discovered in the erotic/erotica genre.

I found a lot of erotica was missing a basic PLOT. So, I mixed my love for romance and storytelling with my need to make people aware of the world around us with sex…sex sells and it sells well when it’s accompanied with a well told plot. I wanted to capture male readers as well as female…and I think I have by giving them a story with their sex. This is a series a wife can read to her husband and create a few hot night of her own! *wink*

HOWEVER, you know I can’t just be normal…in my storytelling…I love to braid my stories, so there are layers and layers to intrigue my readers. I have a series plot of the war between the Airbornes and the Dirt Dwellers that will find its conclusion in book seven, while each book has its own character relationships and sizzling sex plotlines. Each book finds its HEA at the end of the ‘book’s’ story.

Anita Cox: So let’s get into the nuts and bolts. How long did it take for your series plot to come together? Tell us how it came together.

Houston Havens: Believe it or not, I’d written a straight romance that dealt with this topic. So, a lot of it was already in my mind when I sat down to write this erotic-romance series. Each of the books in this series was written in 30 days…then I spent another six weeks or so polishing each book, fine-tuning the plots and characters. But, my books run about 100,000 words.

Anita Cox: Do you have any habits or rituals when you write? Me, I like to have a good strong cup of coffee.

Houston Havens: Of heavens…coffee’s a necessity isn’t’ it? Can’t imagine sitting down without that. My main habit is I have to get up and get dressed, just like those who go into an office everyday…yes, I dress for work. I’m not an author who works in a nightgown or sweats.

Anita Cox: Today’s market can make it a challenge for authors to stand out in a sea of other authors. How do you manage?

Houston Havens: OMG as best as I can…it’s all a guessing game, but in the end I feel like it all falls back on how well you as an author can show and tell your stories…all the best advertising in the world won’t help if you can’t show and tell an entertaining tale. So, newbies don’t rush your book to market until you hear your voice or you could be dumping your career as a bestselling author into the trash before you get started.

Anita Cox: You do such a fantastic job getting your reader emotionally invested in the characters, which is probably the seed to my obsession. Are there any tips you can give other writers as far as pulling in their reader?

Houston Havens: Deep POV… meaning you have to go into the head of your Point of View character and show and tell the readers what’s going on inside of him/her…aim for that exposure about every two sentences and in fact you’ll probably get an emotion out once or twice in a paragraph.

Anita Cox: Whose story are we going to see in Book 4 and have you picked a title? I’ll refrain from begging for a blurb as I know you’re still working on the book and that would be completely greedy of me.

Houston Havens: LOL – I can’t give you a blurb yet, but the title of book four is INTIMATE BETRAYAL. The story characters are Kindise, Jaden, and Sori…who the readers have met in the first three books.

Anita Cox: Okay, now the really good stuff. You’re going to be stranded on a desert island for a week with a hotty of your choice. Who do you take? (No, not your husband. We know he must be awesome to snag a model and author.)

HosutonHavensHouston Havens: LOL! Okay…so someone other than me hubby….I’d take Drakker from book one Sinful Surrender, or Nikias from book two Phantom Desire, or Faerydae from Expose Ecstasy…or Jaden from Intimate Betrayal.

Movie Star wise, Orlando Bloom, Brad Pitt, or Sean Connery!

Anita Cox: For one day, you can have whatever you want, regardless of dietary needs, allergies, fat to the thighs…like risk free anything for a day. What does Houston indulge in?

Houston Havens: I don’t indulge, but if I did, it would be Swiss & Brie cheese on crackers with mimosa!

Anita Cox: I’m interested to know what your favorite book was PRIOR to you becoming an author. Or, in the alternative, who was your favorite author?

Houston Havens: I LOVED Red October by Tom Clancy – Romance wise – I loved Johanna Lindsey

Anita Cox: Is that still your favorite? Why or why not?

Houston Havens: Yes…I love both those authors because they are awesome storytellers.

Anita Cox: Okay girl, I’ll let you get back to writing. Thank you for answering my insane questions. Please let my readers know where they can find you below:

Review of @HoustonHaven ‘s Exposed Ecstasy

First, the blurb:

My Review: 5 STEAMY FUCKING STARS! (Review cleaned up and posted to Amazon.)

Sinful Surrender started me on this journey by introducing me to Fae and the polyandrous society Havens created. It was hot, erotic and left me begging for Book 2.

Haven’s Phantom Desire was a follow up with Chandra, Fae’s friend, and her three lovers. My heart melted, ached and boomed as I read this story.

But then…Exposed Ecstasy was finished. She gave it to me as an ARC. Holy shit…I didn’t think it could get any hotter. I’m a fan of irony and the fact that Book 3 took us from 3 men down to 2 made me giggle. Houston Havens wound this story with precision.  She also made me feel bi-polar. First, I wanted to kick Faerydae square in the balls, then I wanted him all to myself. Shomar I absolutely loved from the very beginning.

Tessla is stuck in an impossible situation and finds herself seeking refuge with a very unlikely hero who saved her from her father’s psychotic attempt on her life. She’s thrown into a world she doesn’t understand. To top it off, she thinks love is a myth.

I don’t want to add any spoilers but Tessla is in for a surprise and the ride of her life.

I really didn’t feel like I read a nearly 100k word novel. It went by very quickly as I raced to the next page. When I was done I needed a shower and a smoke.

Havens does it again and I’m already itching for Book 4 in this awesome series!

It takes thick skin to survive the vipers

I always look forward to opening my private messages on facebook, which are usually full of dudes with horrid pickup lines. Today, I found this little gem by Von’te Banks.

UntitledReally? Shoot your fucking self? I don’t think I need to go into how repulsive this is since suicide and depression are real problems for real people…and that families suffer.

Wait, it gets better.

So I clicked over to Amazon to find (s)he left 1star reviews on Books 2 & 3 but no review on Book 1. First, they aren’t verified purchases, so I’d like to know (if (s)he actually read the books) how she got his/her nasty little hands on my books. Second, (s)he’s only ever left two reviews – only on my books. I went ahead and took a screen shot just in case my little vixen decided to correct that error.

stacy cNow everyone is certainly entitled to their opinion and if you hate a book so much as to leave a 1-star review, that is your prerogative. However, his/her motives are unclear but her goal was clear.

Asshat (1)
Does this bother me? Hell no.  Clearly, this person has some issues. Telling someone to kill themselves is as low as it gets. Because these aren’t verified purchases and due to the fact that she forgot to blast Book 1.

But instead of being an asshat, (s)he just looks like (s)he has his/her own head up said ass. There’s no reason to speak to someone this way. There’s no reason to send an author a private message telling them to commit suicide. This is the lowest form of low.

Asshat

If it’s publicity (s)he wants, I’ve just given it to him/her. If it’s an attitude adjustment (s)he needs well…

This doesn’t bother me because professional reviewers have given me 4 & 5 star reviews. This doesn’t bother me because I know my self-worth and some chicken-shit that sends me a nastygram then blocks me so I cannot reply is not the type of thing to break me.

It’s given me a good laugh Von’te Banks, (whose looking for a good cover artist for her own books.) I’m not going to get twisted in knots over your malicious private message. I’m not going to cry because of your malevolent words on Amazon. I’m going to wish you the best instead. I’m going to congratulate you on your attempt to publish a novel. Then I’m going to sit back and….

Review of Sealed in Blood by Jenna Fox @JennaFoxRox

On her first day in town, she has an accident with an eccentric casino owner. Enthralled by his good looks, she falls into his bed for a steamy one night stand.

But Hunt Blackwater is more than a mysterious, gorgeous casino owner. Rumors of a Native American curse and a string of inexplicable deaths follow in his wake. Unwilling to get in over her head, Charisma cuts her trip short and returns home, but trouble seems to follow her. With remembered whispers of curses in her ears, and the lingering smell of death in her nose, she wonders if she is his next victim. Things go from puzzling to harrowing as Charisma comes face to face with the greatest betrayal she could ever imagine.

Review – 4 stars!

I was introduced to Jenna during an event on-line. It was her dynamic personality that enticed me to purchase this book. I don’t regret spending one penny on this wonderful steamy novel.

Her female lead, Charisma doesn’t trust men except for her bible-thumping daddy. Rich Conway has a sick and twisted infatuation with her, and a dark plan.

Hunt is everything we look for in a hero, tall, dark and handsome. When Hunt and Charisma meet, the heat nearly burned my kindle. The pull between them is unworldly.

This was a well written erotic piece, the first I’ve read from this author. I’ll definitely buy more of her books. She does a nice job writing heat into her sex scenes while keeping them from crossing the line into vulgar.

I’ll tell you this much – I need a smoke!

Anita Cox & Houston Havens #takeover WordSexy #Radio

Tuesday, August 12 at 8pm CST Houston Havens and I will be interviewed by Red Snapper on WordSexy Radio.  I’ve listened to Red’s shows and let me tell you–he is a handful!  I’m looking forward to this type of interaction.

Red gets right down to business talking about the writing, the characters and up and coming news. This is blended nicely with his very fun witty banter.  As the name indicates, it’s WordSexy meaning 18+ please.

We will be discussing our erotic novels so adult content is an obvious warning. But that’s okay with me!200 (3)
