Hello! JoAnna Grace here with Avery McClain, from The Divine Chronicles. I caught up with Avery while she took a break from training with the Elites.
Jo: Hi Avery. How are you?
Avery: Hey Jo! As Frank would say, I’m fit as a fiddle but still out of tune. The Elites are kickin’ my tail. Thanks for givin’ me an excuse to rest.
Jo: No problem. I’m curious to know how your transition from Texas to the Haven is going.
Avery: It’s so nice here, minus the demons and poisoning princesses, I mean. Everything else is peachy. Back in Texas, my town was a tiny dot on the map. Blink and you’ve passed it. Everyone knew your business before you did. The Haven is like that, but rewind it about a hundred years and mix in people with some dang cool powers.
Jo: Can you explain where the Haven is exactly?
Avery: Well, I can’t give you the exact location, but it’s an alternate realm in the hills of east Tennessee. We get all the beauty of the Smoky Mountains without all the tourists. (chuckles)
Jo: I bet it’s beautiful. I love Tennessee. Do you think you will ever come back to Texas?
Avery: (leans in and whispers) I want to go back and visit my old town. But I think Ryse would have a shit-fit.
Avery: Oh! Sorry, am I not supposed to say that? Let me rephrase. Ryse would be very upset.
Jo: Why would he be upset?
Avery: Well, accordin’ to my hometown, I’m a bit on the dead side thanks to everything that happened in Divine Awakening. If I show up out of the clear blue, they might all take to drinkin’…more.
Jo: Okay, no road trips for now. We must placate the husbands. How about you tell me what it’s like working with the Elites?
Avery: It’s flippin exhausting, that’s what it is. These fellas are wearin’ me out. But it’s very interesting to see their various talents and gifts. Hammon can track any Olympian if they are using their gifts. It’s a little creepy, but it works. Philippe is stingy about his gifts. He’s one of the only Elementalists in the Olympian world that has all four elements, earth, water, fire and air. I think it makes him arrogant, but don’t tell him I said that. Cutter is a freak with those knives. He’s scary good with a sword—not as good as Ryse, but I’m partial.
Jo: I loved how Cutter used his knife skills to help you in the kitchen in Divine Destiny.
Avery: He’s a handy fella to have around, for sure.
Jo: Yankee is warming up to you. How is that relationship going?
Avery: Bless his heart, Yankee is the south end of a north bound donkey. There’s really no other way to describe him. He’s so strong, such a good fighter. But, yeah, he’s still an ass.
Jo: (laughs) At least you have Dante and Brenden to balance him out.
Avery: Yes! Thank Zeus! Brenden and Dante are my guardians, and they are two of the nicest guys around. You’ll really get to learn more about Dante and his love interest in Divine Judgment. Brenden, (shakes her head) he’s really had it rough lately. But, he’s a Texan like me, so he’ll overcome it. Hopefully one day he will learn to control his inner beast.
Jo: I don’t want to keep you for too long,
Avery: Oh, please do, I’m supposed to train with Yankee next.
Jo: Sorry! I have one final question. What’s it like being mated to the Master Thracian?
Avery: (sighs) Ryse is…incredible. People are so terrified of him—with good reason, don’t get me wrong—but with me, he’s nothing but a big ole teddy bear. I love that I get to see a side of him no one else does. It makes me feel special. It’s not easy bein’ the redneck girl among old fashioned warrior-dudes. But Ryse makes it all worth it. I love him so much.
Jo: Aw, that’s wonderful. Thank you for sharing a piece of your life with us, and good luck with all that training.
Avery: Thanks darlin’! I’m gonna need it.

One warrior fights for the love of his life, while another warrior finds his.
The gods have summoned…
Thracian Master, Ryse Castille, and Deities around the world travel to the Heavens and face their creators. It’s time for a murderer to come to justice and Ryse will have a front row seat at the trial. The Heavens have a few unexpected surprises for him; he prays one of them will be a reunion with his beloved Avery’s spirit. He’ll stop at nothing to bring her home safely and see his father’s killer brought to justice—if the gods don’t destroy the Olympian race first. Their fate rests on his shoulders.
While the Master is away…
Elite Apprentice, Dante, has a monumental responsibility in Ryse’s absence. He must watch over the widowed queen and Avery’s comatose body until her spirit is returned. In the wake of the king’s death, the gods send Lysandra, an Oracle, to earth to guide them through the troubling times. Weighed down by the constant disapproval of his father, Dante finds solace in her admiring eyes. Their unexpected affections are cultivated amidst the secrecy and constant threat of exposure. Both Oracle and Elite are bound by their oaths—the very things that might wrench them apart.
Two Warriors. Two Quests. One Final Judgment.
JoAnna Grace lives in a world of alpha males and strong females where true love conquers all—at least in her mind!
From the time she started holding a crayon she began to create magical worlds. Her first book was a series of pictures about a puppy princess. The story changed each time she told it, but there was always a happy ending! Her first written story was about girls who changed into tigers.
Now those stories have become a bit more complex!
JoAnna’s tales are spun at her home in East Texas where she lives with her husband, three kids, and a couple dogs. When not hiding behind the computer screen you can find her camping, boating, and shopping.
